BACKGROUND

Nowadays, using disposable packaging is increasing due to the tendency of society who want to practical life. The paradigm of practical life it has caused the dynamics of society that have a lot of rubbish especially plastic waste.

 

For example, In Indonesia, Data of Cleaning and Landscaping Agency, DKI Jakarta (DKI Jakarta BPS, 2009) pointed out that amount of garbage in Jakarta reached almost 28,000 cubic meters per day. Composition comprising 65 percent of organic waste and 35 percent inorganic waste, the huge number of inorganic is plastic waste. In fact, plastic waste takes 200 to 1,000 years to decompose. To reduce plastic waste, there is a way to 'shorten' the age of plastic waste by burning it. But it is very dangerous, because the content of the plastic waste that regardless to the air when burned, can endanger the health of living beings, including humans.

 

Data from Environment Protection Body (EPB,2008), an agency of the environment in the United States, about 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags used around the world every year. That means, as the amount of plastic waste quite a lot.

These problems will be more complicated if the paradigm of ‘practical life’ continues to be run by the community, then the salvation of the Earth and its contents will be increasingly threatened. Unimaginable if all people apply practical lifestyle continue to dump rubbish.

 

Currently, eco-friendly lifestyle is generally known by the public society. However, this eco-friendly lifestyles haven't integrated as well as how the application of. Society are already have awareness in green lifestyle especially in the use of disposable packaging. But there has been no common perception and understanding of the synergistic between the parties involved in the implementation of an eco-friendly lifestyle. For example, the consumer (recipient of services or purchaser) and the manufacturer (seller or service provider) often occurs a difference of perception to implement a green lifestyle. Therefore, the need for an action that can bridge the understanding between the parties in implementing a green lifestyle to be more impact effectively and efficiently.

GOALS
  • Raise awareness in using reusable bag as part of the lifestyle (everywhere, everytime)

  • To empower ASEAN youth to care about our environment and create an avenue for them to begin/continue their journey in environment protection and conservation

  • For demonstration: one person, one reusable bag to reduce using plastic bag use

  • To create and/or strengthen ASEAN youth collaborations

  • Learn about environment protection and conservation in theory and application through innovative entrepreneurship of reusable bag design and use
